Manchester City have reportedly been told that they will have to pay £68m if they wish to sign RB Leipzig attacker Dani Olmo during this summer's transfer window.

The Citizens are widely expected to bring in a new attacker before the market closes, but a possible move for West Ham United's Lucas Paqueta has broken down, while a deal for Rennes' Jeremy Doku has allegedly stalled.

According to The Sun, Man City have identified Olmo as an alternative despite the fact that the Spain international signed a new contract with Leipzig earlier this summer.

Barcelona and Manchester United had both been linked with the forward earlier this year before it was revealed that he had penned a contract with his German club until the summer of 2027.

The report claims that there is a £51m release clause in his deal, but it will not become active until next year, so Man City will have to come to an agreement with Leipzig in the current market in order to sign him.

Leipzig are said to value Olmo at £68m, and it remains to be seen whether the Premier League champions are prepared to meet that fee for the versatile attacker.

The Bundesliga outfit are said to be reluctant to sell another of their key players to Man City, having allowed Josko Gvardiol to make the switch to the Etihad Stadium this summer.

"There are too many rumours. At some points it's enough. We lost many players in the end I need a team to play football with," Leipzig head coach Marco Rose recently told reporters.

"As far as Olmo to City goes, I could say 'never ever' but I won't say it."

Olmo starred for Leipzig in their 3-0 win over Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup last weekend, scoring an excellent hat-trick to help his side win the trophy.

The forward was also on the scoresheet in his team's 3-2 loss to Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Olmo made the move to Leipzig from Dinamo Zagreb in 2020, and he has represented the club on 125 occasions in all competitions, scoring 25 goals and registering 29 assists.

The Spaniard's ability to operate in a number of different forward positions has allegedly made him an even more attractive signing for Man City head coach Pep Guardiola this summer.

The Premier League champions will be without the services of Kevin De Bruyne for the next four months, with the Belgium international being forced to undergo a hamstring operation.

Man City will be bidding to make it successive wins at the start of the new Premier League campaign when they take on Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday night. body check tags ::
