Manchester United are allegedly close to securing a deal for Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer.
Ahead of transfer deadline day, United had not been expected to be looking to strengthen, instead preferring to rely on youth if they were required to during the second half of the season.
However, it was announced on Tuesday that key midfielder Christian Eriksen would be sidelined for three months with an ankle injury.
With Erik ten Hag indicating that he would stick with the players that he has at his disposal earlier in the day, any transfer appeared to be unlikely.
Nevertheless, reports soon emerged that Sabitzer had become a short-term option, despite being a valuable squad member at the Allianz Arena.
The Austria international has made 10 starts and 12 substitute appearances in all competitions with Bayern competing on three fronts.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, United are nearing a positive conclusion in negotiations with their Bayern counterparts.
As a result, Sabitzer has been given permission to fly to England in order to undergo a medical at United ahead of completing the transfer.
The deal is a straight loan, with the 28-year-old due to return to Bayern in the summer with two years left on his contract.
While Chelsea were also initially suggested as an option for Sabitzer, United's Premier League rivals are instead focused on trying to sign Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez for a British transfer record. body check tags ::
