Napoli forward Dries Mertens has reportedly emerged as a potential transfer target for Manchester United.
After United's 1-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Friday night, Jose Mourinho is likely to have a greater urge to make changes to his first-team squad and it appears that could include an approach for the Belgian international.
According to The Sun, United are interested in activating Mertens's release clause of £25m due to the 30-year-old contributing 45 goals over the past two seasons.
Mertens can play in a number of positions in the final third, and the player's versatility - plus the relatively low fee - is likely to lead to a bid being lodged in the coming weeks.
As it stands, just two years remain on Mertens's contract, but Napoli could look to improve his terms should clubs from outside of Serie A come knocking during the summer.
