Manchester United have reportedly opened discussions with Monaco over the potential signing of Youssouf Fofana, who has been heavily linked with a move to AC Milan this summer.
The Red Devils have already secured the signings of striker Joshua Zirkzee and 18-year-old centre-back Leny Yoro for a combined total of around £88m in the current transfer window.
However, new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe's plans are not yet complete, as he is expected to add a new central midfielder and another centre-back before the summer transfer window slams shut.
Erik ten Hag's team have been linked with several midfielders in recent weeks, including free agent Adrien Rabiot and Manuel Ugarte of Paris Saint-Germain.
Although a deal for Ugarte seemed likely, United are believed to be unwilling to meet PSG's £51m asking price and have seemingly shifted their focus to other options.
Man United eyeing summer move for Youssouf Fofana
According to Sky Sports, Man United have identified their next midfield transfer target in the form of Monaco's Youssouf Fofana as a potential replacement for Scott McTominay, who has been linked with a move to Craven Cottage this summer.
The report adds that Fofana is open to a move to Old Trafford and United have looked into the terms of a deal for the the French international, who is now in the final year of his contract with the Ligue 1 outfit.
Fofana arrived at Monaco from Strasbourg in 2020 and has gone on to make 175 appearances for Rouges et Blancs, scoring seven goals and setting up 15 in that time.
It is understood that Marco Silva's side have already made two bids for McTominay, but both were rejected by the Red Devils as neither matched their valuation of the Scottish international.
The Cottagers' most recent bid is believed to have been around the £20m mark, but the Manchester club are looking for closer to £30m to part ways with their central midfielder.
PSG make enquiries about Man United midfielder
While Man United's interest in Ugarte has reportedly begun to diminish, the Red Devils are believed to still be in contact with the French giants; however, their discussions are over the possible sale of Jadon Sancho.
Reports on Tuesday indicated that Les Parisiens had held talks with the Red Devils' hierarchy over the conditions of a potential deal and Sancho could be open to a move to the French capital.
The England international returned to Old Trafford this summer after being sent on loan to his former club Borussia Dortmund last season following a public fallout with Ten Hag.
Sancho has now resumed training with the first team and was a part of the squad in the USA for the club's pre-season tour.
United are believed to have placed a £40m valuation on the 24-year-old, who has also been linked with a move to Juventus and a return to Signal Iduna Park this summer. body check tags ::
