Manchester United are in talks with Jorge Mendes over the possibility of signing Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio, according to a report.

Manchester United are reportedly holding discussions with Jorge Mendes over the possibility of signing his client Marco Asensio during this summer's transfer window.

The 26-year-old was again a regular for Los Blancos during the 2021-22 campaign, making 42 appearances in all competitions, contributing 12 goals and two assists in the process.

Asensio's contract at Bernabeu is due to expire next June, though, and he continues to be strongly linked with a move away from Carlo Ancelotti's side.

Arsenal, AC Milan and Juventus are all said to be keen on the Spain international, who netted 10 times during Real Madrid's title-winning 2021-22 La Liga campaign.

However, according to ABC, Man United are currently in talks with Mendes to discuss the versatile attacker making the move to Old Trafford ahead of the new season.

The report claims that new Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag wants his club to add a left-footed attacker during this summer's transfer window and is an admirer of Asensio.

Los Blancos would allegedly be prepared to sell the former Mallorca youngster in the current market if they received an offer in the region of €50m (£42.7m).

Asensio has made 235 appearances for Real Madrid since his arrival, contributing 49 goals and 24 assists, winning three La Liga titles and three Champions League crowns.

The attacker impressed in the early stages of his career with Los Blancos but has found it difficult to find his best form since suffering a serious knee injury during a pre-season clash with Arsenal in July 2019.

Asensio, who recently addressed his future at Bernabeu, only played in one of Real Madrid's final three league matches of the 2021-22 campaign, and he was an unused substitute against Liverpool in the Champions League final at the end of May.

Man United are expected to sign at least one new attacker this summer, with Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard all leaving the club on free transfers.

Benfica's Darwin Nunez has been strongly linked with a switch to Old Trafford, but Liverpool are now believed to be on the verge of securing his signature.

Ten Hag is also allegedly determined to add a new defender and midfielder to his squad this summer, with Ajax's Jurrien Timber and Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong viewed as leading targets.

Ajax's Antony also continues to be linked with a switch to Old Trafford, with Anthony Martial potentially leaving Old Trafford on a permanent basis during this summer's transfer window. body check tags ::
