Manchester United are reportedly preparing to offer experienced goalkeeper Jack Butland the chance to move to Old Trafford on a permanent basis this summer.

The 30-year-old joined the Red Devils on loan from Crystal Palace in January after Newcastle United recalled Martin Dubravka following a spell with the 20-time English champions.

Butland has not made a single appearance for Man United in the second half of the season, but he has recently been on the bench due to Tom Heaton's ankle injury.

As it stands, the goalkeeper will return to Palace at the end of the season, but his contract with the Eagles is due to expire at the end of June.

Rangers continue to be heavily linked with Butland, and the Scottish giants have allegedly already offered him a contract to move to Ibrox ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

However, according to The Sun, Man United are prepared to double the salary that Rangers have put on the table in a bid to convince him to move to Old Trafford on a permanent basis.

Heaton's contract with the Red Devils is due to expire at the end of June, and Butland could allegedly be offered the chance to be David de Gea's back-up at Man United next term.

The report claims that Rangers have matched the salary that he picks up at Palace and will offer him the number one goalkeeping position at the club.

Man United, meanwhile, are offering a higher salary, but he will not be the first-choice stopper at Old Trafford, with De Gea preparing to sign a new deal despite some high-profile errors in recent months.

Dean Henderson is also set to return to the Red Devils this summer following a loan spell at Nottingham Forest, but the England international could then depart on a permanent basis.

Butland is yet to represent Man United, but he has vast experience in the Premier League, featuring on 87 times in the competition during his time at Stoke City and Palace.

The stopper has also played 161 matches in the Championship and has been capped on nine occasions by England, although he has not been involved for the national team since 2018.

Man United have been linked with a number of goalkeepers in recent months due to De Gea's issues, but the club are set to prioritise the signing of a striker and a central midfielder this summer.

As a result, there is unlikely to be room in the budget for a big-money arrival in the goalkeeping department, with Butland potentially again being De Gea's back-up next term if Heaton leaves on a free transfer. body check tags ::
