Inter Milan have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Manchester United outcast and soon-to-be free agent Anthony Martial.
The France international is approaching his nine-year anniversary as a Red Devils player, having commanded a €60m (£51.5m) fee to leave Monaco in the summer of 2015.
However, Martial is not expected to be celebrating a decade of service to the 20-time English champions, as his contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the current campaign.
The 28-year-old has shown flashes of promise under Erik ten Hag, but he has missed the entirety of 2024 so far with a serious groin injury, and it is not clear when he might return to first-team action.
Either way, with Rasmus Hojlund cementing himself as Ten Hag's first-choice striker and the Red Devils expected to be in the market for another number nine this summer, Martial is set to be on the move.
Martial at centre of four-way transfer tussle?
Man United still possess the option to extend Martial's contract by a further 12 months, but having not triggered that option at the same time that they activated extensions for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof and Hannibal Mejbri in January, the Frenchman's deal will seemingly be allowed to run its course.
Ten Hag recently said that it "depends" on Martial whether he will play for the club again as he ramps up his recovery from groin surgery, but according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, his representatives are already working on his next career move.
Serie A champions-elect Inter Milan have supposedly been offered the chance to take the ex-Monaco starlet for next season, and the Nerazzurri have been interested in a deal for Martial for some time.
Simone Inzaghi's side supposedly considered a swoop for the France international over the winter window, but they decided to hold fire in the hope of capturing the Frenchman on a free transfer this summer.
Inter are seemingly not alone in their efforts to offer Martial an escape route from Old Trafford, though, as Fenerbahce and two unnamed Ligue 1 clubs are also rumoured to be keeping a close eye on developments.
Martial not Inter's first-choice striker target
While Inter would not have to pay a penny to bring Martial to San Siro, the Nerazzurri supposedly do not consider the 28-year-old to be their leading striker target for the summer window.
Inter are already set to sign Mehdi Taremi on a free transfer from Porto, and the report adds that Genoa's Albert Gudmundsson - also linked with Tottenham Hotspur - is currently at the top of Inzaghi's list.
The Serie A leaders could apparently be quoted €30m (£25.7m) to prise Gudmunsson away from his current club, though, and they would therefore have to trim their squad through sales before making their move.
From 317 appearances in a Red Devils shirt, Martial has conjured up 90 goals and 50 assists, winning one Europa League, two EFL Cups, one FA Cup and one Community Shield in the process.
However, the Frenchman only has two goals and one assist under his belt in the 2023-24 season, and his last appearance for Man United came in December's 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth. body check tags ::
