Manchester United are reportedly contemplating a surprise move for former Aston Villa winger Anwar El Ghazi amid their attacking conundrum.
Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag has been left noticeably short on the right-hand side of the pitch due to recent off-field events, with neither Jadon Sancho nor Antony in the first-team picture at the moment.
The latter has been granted a leave of absence in order to address accusations of domestic violence levied against him by three women, which the Brazil international strongly denies.
Meanwhile, Sancho is thought to be seeking an exit from Man United as soon as possible after being dropped from the squad for last weekend's defeat to Arsenal, which Ten Hag claimed was due to poor performances in training.
However, Sancho publicly called out the Dutchman on social media, insisting that he had been training well and labelling himself a "scapegoat", which apparently left Ten Hag dumbfounded.
The duo attempted to clear the air earlier this month, but their relationship is now thought to be irreparable, and Sancho could now leave on loan in January before a permanent exit next summer.
In addition, Amad Diallo is injured, while Mason Greenwood is plying his trade on loan at Getafe and is not expected to represent the 20-time English champions again.
As a result, Ten Hag has been left with just two recognised right-wingers in 21-year-old Facundo Pellistri and 19-year-old Shola Shoretire, neither of whom have ever started a Premier League game.
While the English transfer window closed on September 1, clubs are still able to sign free agents, and the Daily Mail claims that El Ghazi has emerged as a candidate to solve Man United's winger crisis.
The 28-year-old is on the hunt for a new stomping ground after leaving PSV Eindhoven by mutual consent earlier this summer, and he would bring vast Premier League experience to Old Trafford.
Once on the books at Everton during a 2021-22 loan spell, El Ghazi scored 15 goals and set up five more in 73 Premier League games before leaving Villa in 2022, joining PSV for just €2.5m (£2.2m).
Having already made a name for himself in the Eredivisie with Ajax, the attacker quickly acclimatised to life back in the Netherlands with nine goals and two assists from 31 games under Ruud van Nistelrooy, helping PSV win the KNVB-Beker.
The report adds that Man United may also face competition from clubs in Saudi Arabia to bring El Ghazi back to the Premier League, but the Dutchman was apparently in attendance to see the Red Devils lose to Arsenal before the international break.
That defeat left Man United 11th in the Premier League table after four games, and the Red Devils are next in action at home to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday. body check tags ::
