Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly determined to bring Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini to Old Trafford during the January transfer window.
Pellegrini, 22, has scored twice and provided five assists in 13 appearances for Roma during the 2018-19 season.
The midfielder only returned to Roma in the summer of 2017 following a spell at Sassuolo, but it is understood that he has a £26m release clause inserted into his current deal.
According to Corriere dello Sport, United directors met with the midfielder's agent Giacomo Pocetta on Saturday, and the Red Devils revealed that they would be prepared to pay Pellegrini's release clause, in addition to doubling his current salary.
However, the same report claims that Roma are working hard to convince Pellegrini to snub interest from Old Trafford to sign a new contract with the Italian club.
Pellegrini has been capped on nine occasions by the Italian national team.
