Manchester United are reportedly set to trigger a clause to extend Victor Lindelof's contract by a year.

Lindelof, who joined Man United from Benfica in 2017, has made 241 competitive appearances during his time with the 20-time English champions.

Despite spending the last six years at Old Trafford, there is uncertainty surrounding his future due to his contract situation.

The 29-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his deal and could potentially leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

However, according to the Daily Star, Man United are set to activate a one-year option in his contract to extend his stay until the summer of 2025.

Man United have taken the decision to prevent Lindelof from leaving on the cheap should he depart in January or the summer transfer window.

The report suggests that the versatile defender is attracting interest from Italian giants Juventus and AC Milan.

The Red Devils hope that by extending Lindelof's current deal that they can command a reasonable fee in the region of £15m.

Due to Man United's defensive injury crisis, the Sweden international has been presented with regular playing time this season.

The Red Devils have seen their first-choice central defensive pairing of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez affected by injuries.

Man United boss Erik ten Hag has also been left light on options in the full-back depart following injuries to Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw, Sergio Reguilon and Tyrell Malacia.

With a number of first-team regulars on the sidelines, Lindelof has gone on to make 10 appearances in all competitions this season.

Despite featuring in all but one of Man United's 11 competitive games this term, he is likely to drop down the pecking order when the injured players start to return to full fitness. body check tags ::
