Manchester United are reportedly unlikely to be active during the January transfer window due to their vast spending over the summer, which was higher than initially planned.

The Red Devils brought in Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez as their first three signings of the summer, and the trio were involved in the 4-0 loss at Brentford on August 13.

Following the heavy defeat, the club's owners sanctioned big-money moves for Casemiro and Antony, while Martin Dubravka also arrived on loan from Newcastle United.

The 20-time English champions have had a turnaround since the defeat to Thomas Frank's side, winning five of their last six games in all competitions, including their last four in the Premier League.

A recent report claimed that Man United could spend as much as £70m in January, with the Red Devils looking to secure a spot in the top four during the 2022-23 campaign.

Speaking after Thursday's 2-0 win over Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League, Man United boss Erik ten Hag suggested that the club be involved in the January window.

"Always to use such breaks [is] useful," Ten Hag told MUTV. "We have many meetings, we have to improve the structures in and around the club, we will do.

"We will also look to the window in January or next summer already but also to improve our way of playing by making plans and, of course, this coming period with every third day a game we have to get ready for that.

"The players: 90% is away, the others will train proper and for the rest we have to prepare very well and I hope everyone stays fit, return, healthy back and we have to go in and attack."

However, according to The Athletic, Man United are unlikely to be active in the winter window due to the amount of money that was spent over the summer.

The report claims that the 20-time English champions are reluctant to enter the winter market unless the ideal player becomes available at the right price.

Man United have not been in Premier League action since the 3-1 win over Arsenal on September 4, with their last two games against Crystal Palace and Leeds United postponed following Queen Elizabeth II's death.

The Red Devils will be back in action after the international break against Manchester City, facing a trip to the Etihad Stadium on October 2, before travelling to Omonia in the Europa League four days later.

Ten Hag's side will also face Everton, Omonia (H), Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Sheriff and West Ham United during a busy October. body check tags ::
