Manchester United have reportedly not yet made a final decision on David de Gea's future despite the fact that the goalkeeper is entering the final hours of his contract at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard won the Golden Glove in the Premier League last season, keeping 17 clean sheets in the competition, and he had widely been expected to sign a new deal this summer.

However, it is understood that Man United have withdrawn the offer that De Gea had initially agreed, with the club then putting another deal with a lower wage on the table.

The goalkeeper's deal is due to expire on Saturday, and various reports over the last 24 hours have claimed that he is now preparing to leave the club on a free transfer.

De Gea hinted at frustration with the situation when he posted a yawning emoji on his official Twitter account on Wednesday, and a number of Saudi Arabian clubs are said to be closely monitoring the situation.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Man United have still not made a final decision on the Spaniard despite his contract being on the verge of expiry.

Inter Milan's Andre Onana is currently being strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford, and it has been claimed that an offer for the Cameroonian has now been made.

Brentford's David Raya is also believed to be admired by the Red Devils, who are likely to sign two new stoppers if De Gea leaves, as there is currently not a number three at the club.

Tom Heaton has extended his contract for a further 12 months, but Jack Butland, who was the number three in the second half of last season, has now joined Rangers from Crystal Palace.

De Gea has been with Man United since 2011, making 545 appearances for the club in all competitions, keeping 190 clean sheets in the process.

The 32-year-old made 58 appearances during the 2022-23 campaign, producing 25 shutouts, but he was criticised for a number of high-profile errors.

There are also question marks over his ability to play out from the back, which is the direction that Erik ten Hag has attempted to move the team in since his arrival as head coach last summer.

De Gea could technically leave Man United on a free transfer before re-signing on another deal, although that is thought to be unlikely at this stage.

The Red Devils are due to return to pre-season training on Monday, and it remains to be seen whether De Gea is present alongside his teammates at Carrington next week. body check tags ::
