Manchester United are reportedly considering a summer move for Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez.
The 20-year-old arrived at Bournemouth from AZ Alkmaar last July, and he made 33 appearances for the Cherries during the 2023-24 campaign, including 28 outings in the Premier League.
Kerkez's performances are believed to have attracted a host of attention, with a number of clubs believed to be considering making moves for him during the upcoming transfer window.
According to talkSPORT, Man United are one of the teams interested, with the 20-time English champions weighing up a move during the summer market.
The report claims that the Red Devils have identified Kerkez as the ideal player to provide 'competition and cover' for Luke Shaw, with Tyrell Malacia's future at Old Trafford unclear.
Man United 'weighing up summer move for Kerkez'
Malacia did not play a single minute of football for Man United during the 2023-24 campaign due to a knee injury which required two separate operations.
It is unclear whether the Netherlands international will be ready for the start of pre-season, with Man United believed to be determined to sign a new left-back during the summer window.
Shaw is first choice in that area of the field, but the England international has also had huge injury issues during the recent season, which restricted him to just 15 appearances.
The 28-year-old had been hopeful of being available for the FA Cup final last weekend, but he was unable to prove his fitness, and the club are believed to be concerned by his ongoing fitness problems.
Shaw has a contract at Old Trafford until June 2027, though, and the ex-Southampton youngster will be the team's first-choice left-back next season providing that he is fit and available.
Would Kerkez be a good signing for Man United?
Kerkez certainly impressed for Bournemouth during the 2023-24 campaign, featuring 33 times in total, and he proved that he can operate at Premier League level.
The left-back started his professional career with Hungarian outfit Gyor before making the move to AZ, and he featured for the Dutch team on 57 occasions ahead of his switch to the Vitality Stadium.
Bournemouth are in a strong position when it comes to Kerkez's future, and it is likely that the Cherries will demand a large transfer fee for him during the summer market.
Much will depend on the price; if Man United are able to sign him for a relatively low fee, he could be a very smart acquisition for the club considering his potential.
However, the club have other priorities this summer, including a centre-back, central midfielder and a striker, and it remains to be seen whether the funds are there to bring in a player of Kerkez's ilk. body check tags ::
