Manchester United have reportedly identified Kurt Zouma as a long-term replacement for Nemanja Vidic.
The Saint-Etienne defender has impressed in Ligue 1 and his performances have seen him offered a new contract by the club.
However, the Daily Mail reports that United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is keeping an eye on the progress of the French youth international.
A bid of £8m may be required to tempt Saint-Etienne into selling the highly rated defender.
United have also been linked with Benfica's Ezequiel Garay.
