Bayer Leverkusen have announced that right-back Jeremie Frimpong has extended his contract with the club until the summer of 2028.
The 22-year-old was due to see his original deal expire in two years' time and he had been heavily linked with a move away from the Bundesliga club for some time.
Manchester United were linked with the former Manchester City youngster during the summer transfer window, with manager Erik ten Hag believed to be an admirer of the Dutch defender.
Fellow Premier League teams Arsenal and Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in Frimpong, as have La Liga champions Barcelona and perennial Bundesliga winners Bayern Munich.
However, Frimpong has decided to commit his future to Leverkusen by penning a new three-year contract extension, seemingly ending speculation over a transfer in the near future.
Speaking to Leverkusen's official website after signing his new deal, Frimpong said: "A lot has happened since [joining the club two years ago], we've experienced great things and continually improved as a team. It's great fun to be part of this team."
Sporting managing director Simon Rolfes added: "Jeremie Frimpong has not just developed into an extremely popular figure in our squad over the past few years.
"At the moment, he is one of the best players in the Bundesliga in his position as an attacking right-back. The contract extension underlines Jeremie's importance to our Werkself."
Since joining Leverkusen from Celtic in January 2021, Frimpong has made 103 appearances for the German club across all competitions, scoring 13 goals and registering 23 assists.
Frimpong was a standout performer as a right wing-back for Leverkusen last season following the arrival of head coach Xabi Alonso, and he notched up nine goals and 11 assists in 48 matches across the Bundesliga, Champions League, Europa League and DFB-Pokal.
The Dutchman has since started in each of Leverkusen's opening six Bundesliga games this term, scoring once and providing three assists to help Alonso's side climb to the top of the table.
The announcement of Frimpong's new deal comes just a month after Edmond Tapsoba – another defender who has been linked with a Premier League move – extended his contract until June 2028.
The Burkina Faso international attracted interest from both Man United and Tottenham Hotspur during the summer transfer window, and the latter are allegedly still keen to recruit the 24-year-old as one report claims that the North Londoners are planning to make a move in January.
Both Frimpong and Tapsoba are expected to feature for Leverkusen in Thursday's Europa League group-stage clash away against Norwegian side Molde. body check tags ::
