Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly given up hope of signing Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon before today's transfer deadline.
The Sporting skipper has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this summer as United and Spurs look for potential replacements for Paul Pogba and Christian Eriksen respectively.
However, neither club has been able to meet the Portuguese outfit's asking price, which is thought to be around £65m.
Spurs are understood to have seen three bids rejected for Fernandes, while United are also unwilling to give in to Sporting's demands.
The 24-year-old trained with his club as usual this morning and now looks set to stay in Lisbon beyond the end of the English transfer window at 5pm this afternoon.
Real Madrid have also been credited with an interest in Fernandes, who scored 31 goals in 50 appearances across all competitions last season.
