Manchester United have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, according to reports.
After allowing Radamel Falcao to return to Monaco and with doubts surrounding Robin van Persie's long-term fitness, signing a striker could be a priority for Louis van Gaal this summer as he bids to prepare his squad for the Champions League.
According to The Guardian, the club are considering a move for Benzema, who could cost £40m after scoring 22 goals in all competitions this season.
The report suggests that Arsenal could provide competition for his signature, but Real are unlikely to let the Frenchman leave unless they can find a replacement to play in the centre of their attack.
Benzema signed a five-year deal with the club last summer.
