Manchester United are reportedly on the verge of reaching an agreement with Real Madrid and Brazilian midfielder Casemiro over a move to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have spent much of the summer transfer window chasing a deal for Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong but have now seemingly dropped their interest in the Dutchman and are instead pursuing other targets.
Casemiro has been strongly linked with the club over the last 24 hours, and with discussions between the two clubs moving quickly, Man United are believed to now be closing in on a deal.
According to The Telegraph journalist Jason Burt, the 20-time English champions are close to concluding a £60m transfer, with the deal potentially going through 'in the next few days'.
Casemiro has been with Real Madrid since 2013, making 336 appearances for the club, contributing 31 goals and 29 assists in the process.
The Brazil international starred on loan at Porto during the 2014-15 campaign before heading back to Madrid, and he has been vital to their success in recent years.
Last season, the defensive midfielder made 48 appearances in all competitions, as Carlo Ancelotti's side won La Liga, the Champions League and the Spanish Super Cup during a successful campaign.
In all, the South American has won three league titles, one Copa del Rey and five Champions League titles since making the move to Bernabeu from Sao Paulo.
Casemiro still has another three years left to run on his deal in Madrid, but it is believed that he has been offered a huge salary to make the move to Old Trafford.
According to journalist Fernando Burgos, the midfielder has been offered the chance to double his salary to £8.4m a season, with the proposed deal in Manchester due to run for five years.
On Thursday afternoon, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano said that Casemiro is 'tempted' by the offer that has been placed on the table by the 20-time English champions.
"Casemiro will have a conversation with Carlo Ancelotti in the next hours to discuss his future, as Manchester United contract proposal received yesterday is tempting him," Romano posted on Twitter.
Casemiro was named on the bench for Real Madrid's La Liga opener with Almeria last weekend but had been in line to come back into the XI against Celta Vigo on Saturday.
Man United have boosted their midfield this summer with the arrival of Christian Eriksen, but they remain determined to sign a holding player, with Casemiro seemingly viewed as the player to fill that role.
Erik Ten Hag's side will be bidding to bounce back from their successive defeats at the start of the new Premier League season when they host Liverpool on Monday night. body check tags ::
