Manchester United reportedly made four offers for Jadon Sancho during the summer transfer window but were unable to come to an agreement with Borussia Dortmund over a transfer fee.
The England international was strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford over the summer, but the deadline passed with the attacker still at BVB, who are thought to value him in the region of £109m.
According to retired footballer Jan Aage Fjortoft, United failed with four separate bids for the former Manchester City youngster in the recent window.
Fjortoft, who was capped 71 times by Norway during his professional career, made the claim while speaking on Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano's Here We Go podcast.
Sancho is yet to score in six Bundesliga appearances during the 2020-21 campaign, but the 20-year-old has managed two goals and four assists in nine appearances in all competitions.
The attacker - also believed to be a target for Liverpool and Bayern Munich - still has two and a half years left to run on his contract with Lucien Favre's side.
