Manchester United have contacted Real Madrid to enquire into the possibility of signing Luka Modric, according to reports.
The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder started 31 games for Los Galacticos in his first season at the club, but struggled to make an impact, with Jose Mourinho preferring Xabi Alonso and Sami Khedira.
According to Sky Sport Italia, the English champions are keen to sign the 27-year-old Croatian.
It has been a busy day for Manchester United, who have received a bid from Chelsea for Wayne Rooney, while the club's chief executive Ed Woodward returned to the club to conduct transfer business.
The outfit also made a bid for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas on Monday.
