Manchester United have reportedly been offered the chance to bring Atletico Madrid centre-forward Alvaro Morata to the club this summer.

The 29-year-old is back at Wanda Metropolitano following two years on loan at Juventus, but it is understood that he has been made surplus to requirements by his parent club.

According to ESPN, Man United have been handed the opportunity to sign the Spain international, as the Red Devils look to bring in an experienced forward before the end of the transfer window.

Erik ten Hag's side had been strongly linked with Bologna's Marko Arnautovic, but the club have allegedly now decided to drop their interest in the former West Ham United attacker.

Morata is now said to be an option, with the 20-time English champions weighing up making an offer for the Spaniard, who previously played in the Premier League for Chelsea.

The striker joined Chelsea in a big-money deal from Real Madrid in 2017 but largely found it difficult to show his best form at Stamford Bridge despite scoring 24 goals in 72 appearances in all competitions.

Morata netted 20 times in 44 appearances while on loan at Juventus in 2020-21, while he scored 12 goals in 48 outings in all competitions for the Old Lady last term.

The Spaniard started his professional career at Real Madrid, and he has enjoyed a lot of success during his career in terms of trophies, winning two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey crowns and two Champions League trophies in two separate spells with Los Blancos.

Morata has also helped Juventus win two Serie A titles and three Coppa Italia crowns, while he won the FA Cup and Europa League during his time at Chelsea.

The centre-forward also has an impressive scoring record for his country, finding the back of the net on 26 occasions in 56 appearances.

Morata's contract at Atletico is due to run until June 2024, but he has allegedly been told that he is not in the plans of head coach Diego Simeone for the 2022-23 campaign.

Anthony Martial looked set to start the season as Man United's number one forward following an impressive pre-season, but the Frenchman missed out against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday through injury.

Cristiano Ronaldo was also overlooked for a start due to his lack of fitness, with Christian Eriksen selected as the false nine against Graham Potter's side, who recorded a 2-1 win at Old Trafford.

Martial has a chance of being fit for Man United's next league game at Brentford on Saturday, while Ronaldo is also expected to be involved despite the ongoing speculation surrounding his future. body check tags ::
