Manchester United are reportedly lining up a move for PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo.
The Red Devils are determined to boost their attack before the end of the summer transfer window, with head coach Erik ten Hag currently short of options in the final third of the field.
The club have been strongly linked with Ajax's Antony since Ten Hag's arrival, but it appears that they have been priced out of a move for the Brazil international, who is said to be valued in the region of £70m.
Man United had also been linked with Marko Arnautovic, but it is understood that the 20-time English champions have now dropped their interest in the Bologna forward.
According to Sky Sports News, Gakpo has now emerged as a genuine target for the club, with the Red Devils preparing to make an offer for the Netherlands international.
The report claims that while PSV are determined to keep hold of the attacker, the club have accepted that they would be forced to sell him if they received a large offer this summer.
The 23-year-old, who has been capped on seven occasions by the Netherlands, came through the youth system at PSV before making his first-team debut in 2018.
The left-sided forward has represented his Dutch club on 138 occasions in all competitions, contributing 45 goals and 35 assists in the process.
Gakpo was in impressive form for PSV during the 2021-22 campaign, scoring 21 goals and registering 15 assists in 47 appearances in all competitions.
The Dutchman has also started the 2022-23 season in strong form, scoring three times and registering two assists in four appearances.
PSV opened their new Eredivisie campaign with a 4-1 victory over FC Emmen, with Gakpo scoring twice, while he has played twice in the Champions League this term, helping his side reach the playoff round.
Arsenal and Nottingham Forest have also been credited with an interest in the attacker, although it is understood that Man United are currently at the head of the queue for his services.
Ten Hag will be hoping to have Anthony Martial available for selection against Brentford on Saturday, with the Frenchman missing out on the defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend due to a hamstring issue.
Cristiano Ronaldo was introduced in the second half of the clash with the Seagulls, but he could not prevent his side from suffering a 2-1 loss in their campaign opener.
Man United are also believed to be on the verge of bringing in Adrien Rabiot from Juventus, while the club remain interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong. body check tags ::
