Manchester United are reportedly ready to reignite their interest in Ajax defender Jurrien Timber during the January transfer window.
The 21-year-old was one of the first players to be linked with a switch to Old Trafford following Erik ten Hag's arrival as head coach over the summer.
However, Timber is believed to have turned down the chance to make the move to the Red Devils in favour of signing a new deal in Amsterdam, with his current terms due to run until June 2025.
The Netherlands international has again been a vital player for Ajax during the 2022-23 campaign, making 21 appearances in all competitions, contributing two assists in the process.
Timber has featured on 14 occasions in the Eredivisie this term, while he also played in all six of his side's Champions League group-stage fixtures.
According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, there will be funds made available for Ten Hag during the January transfer window, with the club set to hold extensive transfer meetings over the next few weeks.
Following Sunday's Premier League clash with Fulham, Man United will not have a competitive game until the week commencing December 19, which will see them face Burnley in the EFL Cup.
Ten Hag and his recruitment staff are believed to be preparing to hold talks to discuss which players could arrive at Old Trafford during the winter window.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka will allegedly be allowed to depart on a permanent basis, with Crystal Palace leading the race to re-sign the player that they sold to Man United in 2019.
Ten Hag has already hinted at a desire to bring in another right-back to provide competition for Diogo Dalot in the second half of the campaign.
Galetti claims that Timber is back in Man United's radar, with Ten Hag a huge admirer of the player that he managed in Amsterdam.
The Dutchman largely plays as a centre-back, but he is also capable of featuring as a right-back, with his versatility said to make him an even more attractive acquisition for the 20-time English champions.
Timber made his first-team debut for Ajax in 2019, and he has now represented the Dutch giants on 95 occasions in all competitions, contributing four goals and four assists in the process.
The defender, who has been picked in the Netherlands squad for the 2022 World Cup, has won two league titles and one Dutch Cup since breaking into the first team at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
Ajax sold two players to Man United during the summer transfer window, with Lisandro Martinez and Antony both swapping Amsterdam for Manchester. body check tags ::
