Manchester United are reportedly giving consideration to making an approach for Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos.

Amid speculation regarding the future of Cristiano Ronaldo, United spent the summer transfer window being heavily linked with a wide range of players who could play down the middle of their attack.

However, head coach Erik ten Hag opted against bringing in a new recognised frontman, instead spending in the region of £82m on Ajax winger Antony.

With Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial all options for the foreseeable future, Ten Hag is not short when it comes to alternatives for this season.

Nevertheless, according to The Sun, Ten Hag is weighing up his options for future seasons with Ramos said to feature highly on his shortlist.

The report claims that United have already made contact with the representatives of the Portugal Under-21 international, who is currently enjoying the best season of his career.

With Darwin Nunez having left for Liverpool, the 21-year-old has been used down the centre of the Benfica attack by recently-appointed boss Roger Schmidt.

In 12 matches in all competitions, Ramos has contributed eight goals and five assists, Benfica prevailing in each of those fixtures.

While Ramos has chipped in with four strikes in Portugal's top flight this season, his most notable contributions came during Champions League qualifying with a hat-trick coming during the first leg of their third qualifying round tie with FC Midttjylland.

Ramos's efforts have come after he spent the majority of the summer transfer window being linked with a transfer to a bigger club.

Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers were initially regarded as the frontrunners for his signature, while Southampton allegedly made a bid for the player.

However, the bar was soon raised with Paris Saint-Germain said to be admirers of the youngster, and Newcastle United were also reportedly considering a big-money bid before they signed Alexander Isak for a club-record fee.

With Ramos possessing a contract until the end of 2025-26, Benfica remain in a strong position to demand their valuation of Ramos during future transfer windows.

Nevertheless, United will allegedly not go above £25m for Ramos, who is yet to represent Portugal at senior level and has not been selected for their upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures. body check tags ::
