Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has reportedly completed his medical with Manchester United ahead of his £60m arrival at Old Trafford.

The England international has been tracked by the Red Devils for some time and was the subject of two failed bids from Erik ten Hag's side earlier in the window.

Man United subsequently came forward with a third take-it-or-leave-it offer for Mount, tabling a final bid of £55m plus £5m in performance-related add-ons.

Chelsea are said to have rejected the bid at first, but Man United left the offer on the table while they began to consider alternative targets to Mount, who would be due to become a free agent in 2024.

Despite initially holding out for a £65m package, Chelsea ultimately accepted Man United's final bid after conceding defeat in their efforts to tie their academy product down to fresh terms.

Mount - who was also linked with Liverpool earlier this year - was apparently spotted at Man United's Carrington training complex on Monday as he prepared to undergo his medical with the Red Devils.

According to Sky Sports News, those tests have now been completed, and all sides are thrashing out the final details of his agreement before Mount is unveiled as a Man United player.

If all goes to plan, Mount's signing - which would represent Man United's first arrival of the summer transfer window - will be announced by the club within the next 24 hours.

Mount's transfer to the Theatre of Dreams will see the midfielder end a successful 18-year stint in West London, having initially signed on with Chelsea's academy in 2005 before working his way through the ranks.

The 24-year-old enjoyed productive loan spells with Vitesse and Derby County before his first-team breakthrough, and he leaves having registered 33 goals and 37 assists in 195 matches for the Blues in all tournaments.

Mount has won the Champions League, Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup in the English capital, but a disrupted 2022-23 season saw him score just three goals and set up six more in 35 appearances.

A pelvic problem plagued the Englishman during the latter stages of the campaign, causing him to miss Chelsea's final seven top-flight matches and England's recent Euro 2024 qualifying wins over Malta and North Macedonia.

Mount will follow a host of midfielders out of the Stamford Bridge exit door this summer, with N'Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Ruben Loftus-Cheek also leaving for pastures new.

The Englishman's arrival at Old Trafford could spell danger for out-of-favour duo Fred and Scott McTominay, both of whom are being linked with exits after falling behind Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in the pecking order.

McTominay has supposedly been earmarked as a possible successor to Declan Rice by West Ham United, while Roma and Fulham are both said to be considering approaches for Fred. body check tags ::
