Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic, but he is reportedly the club's third choice.
Reports emerged on Monday claiming that the Red Devils are on the verge of signing the Serbian in a deal that could cost up to £40m.
Competition for places at Stamford Bridge is believed to be a major reason why Matic could move on following the news that Chelsea are close to sealing a deal for Monaco's Tiemoue Bakayoko.
United are keen to strengthen their midfield this summer, but according to The Telegraph, Matic is third on the wishlist behind Tottenham Hotspur's Eric Dier and Roma's Radja Nainggolan.
It is believed that the Red Devils have turned to Matic due to their struggles in striking up deals for their preferred targets.
So far this summer, Jose Mourinho has brought in defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica for £31m.
