Manchester United manager David Moyes confirms that the club have made a second bid for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

Manchester United manager David Moyes has confirmed that the club have made a second bid for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

The Premier League champions, who are desperate to strengthen their midfield options, previously lodged an offer believed to be in the region of £25m for the former Arsenal captain earlier this month.

Following their failed attempt to prise the Spain international away from Camp Nou, reports revealed last week that the Red Devils were preparing a £30m bid.

During a press conference in Yokohama, Japan, Moyes confirmed that United's chief executive Ed Woodward has tabled an improved offer to Barcelona, who have stated that Fabregas is not for sale.

While speaking to the media, Moyes said: "My understanding is that Ed's had a response and he spoke with them. I think we made a second offer but Ed is dealing with that personally, rather than me.

"When you're interested in good players, you want to give it every opportunity to materialise and I'll do that. I hope things can continue and move forward. At this moment in time I can only tell you that Ed Woodward is working hard trying to make the deals happen. We can only hope that some of them fall into place shortly.

"I can understand why fans are getting anxious. There's no update I can give you, though. I think everybody might have thought this could be the summer where the transfers come later in the month. You have to remember I only started the job on July 1 so, in truth, I've only been in the job for three weeks at this point in time."

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney's future at Old Trafford remains unclear, but reports have claimed that the England international will not hand in an official transfer request.
