Newcastle United are reportedly keen to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson during this summer's transfer window.

The 25-year-old is expected to seek a move away from the Red Devils in the upcoming market, with David de Gea likely to keep hold of the gloves under incoming head coach Erik ten Hag next term.

The England international was the team's number one for a period of last season, but he is now firmly behind De Gea in the pecking order, with the Spaniard returning to close to his best form for the club this term.

Henderson penned a new long-term deal with the Red Devils in August 2020, but he has only made three appearances for the 20-time English champions this term.

There has been a host of speculation surrounding the stopper's future in recent weeks, with Fulham and Bournemouth among the clubs believed to be interested in his signature.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Newcastle, who were linked with his services in January, are also keen to sign the goalkeeper in the upcoming market.

The report claims that the Magpies would be prepared to pay £40m for Henderson, who could leave either on loan or permanently during this summer's transfer window.

The stopper, who missed the start of last season with the long-term impact of COVID-19, is allegedly open to making the move to Eddie Howe's side, as he is determined to secure regular football in the first half of next season with a view to be making the England squad for the 2022 World Cup.

However, a loan exit is said to be more probable, as Henderson collects £110,000 a week at Old Trafford and still has more than three years left to run on his contract.

Newcastle are expected to bolster their squad with a number of new signings this summer following their recent takeover, but the Magpies could part with less than the £82.8m that they spent in January.

Should Henderson depart then Man United are expected to sign a new goalkeeper, with Lee Grant also set to leave on a free transfer, but Tom Heaton has a contract at Old Trafford until June 2023.

Newcastle recorded a 2-0 win over Arsenal in the Premier League on Monday evening to move onto 46 points from their 37 matches, 12 points clear of the relegation zone.

Howe's side could finish as high as ninth depending on other results on the final weekend, with the club finishing their 2021-22 campaign away to Burnley.

Martin Dubravka has been the club's number one goalkeeper for the majority of this season, making 25 Premier League appearances, and the 33-year-old is believed to have turned down the chance to move to Man United in January as part of a deal that would have taken Henderson to St James' Park.

The Red Devils, meanwhile, are believed to be keen to open contract talks with De Gea, with the Spain international one of the team's stronger performers during what has been a disappointing season. body check tags ::
