Manchester United's negotiations with Bayern Munich over a loan deal for Mathys Tel have allegedly "collapsed".
Tel is believed to have told Bayern that he wants to make the move to Man United in the latter stages of the January transfer window, but there had not been an agreement in place with the Red Devils over a switch.
According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, the negotiations between the two teams have "collapsed", and it is now highly unlikely that the forward will be making the move to Old Trafford.
Plettenberg claims that the Munich giants "rejected everything", and despite the 19-year-old being keen to make the move to Old Trafford, a switch to the 20-time English champions is now off the table.
Arsenal are allegedly still in the race, so Tel could yet move to the Premier League before the end of the winter market.
Tel to Man United 'collapses' late in January window
Tottenham Hotspur are believed to have had an offer of €60m (£50m) accepted by Bayern for Tel, but the forward rejected the chance to make the move to the North London club at the end of last week.
It is still believed to be possible that Tel will stay at Allianz Arena, with his situation being revisited this summer.
Man United have had an unhappy Sunday, suffering a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the Premier League, in addition to losing Lisandro Martinez to a potential season-ending knee injury.
The Red Devils have now seemingly missed out on their leading target in the latter stages of the January transfer window, with alternative options set to be explored before Monday night's deadline.
Who else is on Man United's radar?
Chelsea's Christopher Nkunku and Aston Villa's Leon Bailey are believed to be options for Man United.
Nkunku has 13 goals and four assists in 29 appearances for Chelsea this season, but he has only netted twice in 19 Premier League outings, and the Blues are said to be willing to let him leave.
Bailey, meanwhile, may be available on loan, as Villa prepare to sign Marcus Rashford from Man United.
The Jamaica international has struggled to make his mark for Unai Emery's side this season, only managing one goal and three assists in 29 appearances in all competitions.
However, the attacker scored 14 goals and registered 14 assists in 52 appearances for Villa last term, and Man United are said to be long-term admirers of the 27-year-old, who has a contract at Villa Park until June 2027. body check tags ::
