Orlando City have confirmed that they are at "the beginning of the conversation" with Javier Hernandez over a move to the MLS side.
The Mexico international has been linked with a move away from Manchester United this summer, having spent last year on loan at Real Madrid.
Orlando owner Flavio Augusto da Silva told reporters: "Many clubs in MLS are working to have this guy. But we are at the beginning of the conversation and, as you know, the less we talk about the situation, the better, because we are in the middle of negotiations.
"We hope in one or two weeks to be ready to talk about Chicharito in a different way. Of course he's a great player that every club in the world would like to have and we'd love the chance to have him, too."
Hernandez has scored 37 goals in 102 Premier League appearances, and netted nine in 33 games for Real last season.
