Liverpool have joined arch-rivals Manchester United in the race to sign Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic, according to a report.
United have prioritised a central-midfield capture in the summer and see the Croatia international as an ideal candidate to replace Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp also has eyes on the 30-year-old, though, with The Mirror reporting that the two sides could be in a straight shootout to land the Barca ace once the transfer window opens.
Rakitic, who signed a five-year deal at Camp Nou upon arriving from Sevilla in 2014, has started 29 games in La Liga and the Champions League this term.
Liverpool have already agreed a deal to bring in Naby Keita from RB Leipzig at the start of the summer window, but they risk losing Emre Can to Juventus on a free contract.
