Marcus Rashford slams 'malicious rumours' over Manchester United future

Marcus Rashford takes to social media to dismiss speculation regarding his long-term future at Manchester United.

In Erik ten Hag's first season at Old Trafford, Rashford enjoyed his best individual campaign in a United shirt, contributing 30 goals and 11 assists in all competitions.

However, during the opening three months of 2023-24, it has been a different story, with just one goal and three assists coming in 14 appearances.

That return has come at a time when Ten Hag is coming under fierce pressure to keep his job at the Theatre of Dreams, while the pair had conflicting views over an off-the-field issue last week.

Hours after the 3-0 defeat to Manchester City, Rashford attended a nightclub for his pre-planned birthday party, and was on time when he was next due at the club's training ground.

Nevertheless, Ten Hag claimed at a press conference on Friday that the England international had 'made a mistake' and that he viewed it to be "unacceptable" that the birthday party at that location was still held.

A day later, Rashford was then absent from the United squad for the game at Fulham, with the official reason being due to 'a heavy knock' sustained in training on the preceding day.

Naturally, speculation has remained over Rashford's absence from the squad, and that subject, as well as his long-term future, remains a hot topic for debate.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, fan channel The United Stand said that Rashford's future was in doubt and it would be discussed on a live stream on the site.

In his first post on X since the beginning of September, Rashford replied, saying: "Please STOP spreading malicious rumours."

Having signed a new contract earlier this year, Rashford is tied to United until the end of the 2027-28 campaign.

As it stands, it is unclear whether Rashford will return to the squad for Wednesday's Champions League fixture with Copenhagen in Denmark.

United's final game before the November international break then comes against Luton Town at Old Trafford on November 11. body check tags ::
