Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is said to be closely monitoring Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil.
The 24-year-old, who joined the La Liga giants from Werder Bremen for a fee of £12m in August 2010, is reportedly unsettled at the Bernabeu following the arrival of Luka Modric.
According to The Sun, Ferguson has identified Ozil as an ideal long-term replacement for Paul Scholes and has asked Real to notify him if the German international becomes available for transfer.
Ozil's current £110,000-per-week contract is due to expire in June 2016.
