Manchester United have reportedly not yet ruled out the prospect of Juan Mata staying at Old Trafford for another season.
The Spanish midfielder is out of contract next month and has been linked with the likes of Barcelona and Juventus in recent weeks.
Mata failed to agree terms of a new deal with the Red Devils but, according to The Mirror, the 31-year-old is reluctant to walk away this summer.
United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is rumoured to have intervened by calling Mata into his office following Sunday's 2-0 loss to Cardiff City on the final day of the Premier League season.
The 31-year-old is expected to make an announcement on his future in the next few days.
Ander Herrera and Antonio Valencia have already confirmed they will not be staying on once their deals expire in June.
