Manchester United's hopes of reportedly activating a £14m release clause in Hugo Lloris's contract have effectively been ended, after it emerged that the Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper has no such agreement in his contract.
It has previously been claimed that the Frenchman, who has spent three years at the club, would be allowed to leave White Hart Lane this summer should Spurs fail to qualify for the Champions League.
However, The Metro now suggests that Lloris's current deal is watertight and includes no such buyout loophole related to Tottenham's league finish this season.
The 28-year-old agreed new terms at the North London outfit last year, although he has repeatedly been linked with a move away in recent times.
