Liverpool are reportedly preparing a bid for a new left-back who has been lined up as a potential replacement for Andrew Robertson.

Under the tutelage of former manager Jurgen Klopp, Robertson was a mainstay in the Reds side that won eight trophies, including one Premier League title, one Champions League, one FA Cup and two EFL Cups.

The 30-year-old has made a total of 323 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions since joining from Hull City in July 2017, scoring 11 goals and registering 66 assists.

Robertson remains a first-team regular at Liverpool under new boss Arne Slot and has started 22 of his 26 appearances this season, but the Scotsman's form has been patchy in recent months and doubts over his long-term future at left-back appear to be growing.

The likes of Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez, Fulham's Antonee Robinson, Rennes' Adrien Truffert and Benfica's Alvaro Fernandez are among a number of left-backs who have been linked with a move to Liverpool, and a new name has since emerged as a possible target.

Liverpool targeting January move for Dorgu?

According to Italian news outlet Solo Lecce, Liverpool are preparing a €40m (£33.6m) bid for versatile 20-year-old wideman Patrick Dorgu.

The report adds that the Denmark international has been closely monitored by Liverpool scouts, who have watched the youngster on four occasions.

It is claimed that the potential sale of Dorgu would represent 'the most important future capital gain of all time' for Serie A outfit Lecce.

Liverpool face competition from Antonio Conte's Napoli for Dorgu's signature, while Manchester United have also been credited with an interest.

Who is Lecce's Patrick Dorgu?

Dorgu is of Nigerian descent, but he was born in Copenhagen and began his career in the academies of Danish duo Husum Boldklub and Nordsjaelland, before joining Lecce in 2022.

The 6ft 2in wideman made his senior debut for the Italian side in August 2023 and has since developed into a first-team regular, making 55 appearances in all tournaments.

Dorgu, who is comfortable operating on either flank as a full-back or winger, has chipped in with three goals and one assist in 19 Serie A games for a Lecce side who currently sit 13th in the table.

It has previously been reported by journalist Fabrizio Romano that Dorgu is expected to leave Lecce in 2025, even though he is under contract until June 2029. body check tags ::
