Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo is not close to agreeing a new contract with the Catalan club, according to a report.

The Uruguay international is due to become a free agent in under 18 months' time and has been linked with moves to Manchester United and Chelsea in recent months.

Araujo has become an integral part of the Blaugrana team this term, though, and a recent report claimed that the Catalans were close to tying the centre-back down to a new contract.

However, Sport claims that no agreement is imminent between the two parties, although Araujo's first choice is still to remain at Camp Nou.

The report adds that Araujo is currently one of the lowest earners at the club and is holding out for a contract which reflects his importance to the squad, and he has been improving his English skills amid links with a switch to the Premier League.

Araujo has three goals to his name from 29 appearances in all competitions this season and has now been capped seven times by the Uruguay national team.
