Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo is reportedly on the verge of signing a new long-term contract with the club.
The Uruguay international has established himself as an integral member of Xavi's backline with four goals from 34 appearances in all competitions during the 2021-22 campaign.
Araujo's current deal at Camp Nou is due to expire at the end of next season, and Manchester United have been strongly linked with a swoop for the 23-year-old in recent days.
However, journalist Fabrizio Romano now reports that contract talks have led to a positive solution, and it is only a matter of time before Araujo extends his stay at Barcelona.
Romano adds that Araujo's new deal will likely run until the summer of 2026 after the defender recently insisted that he was determined to pen fresh terms in Catalonia.
Manager Xavi also affirmed that Barcelona cannot afford to lose Araujo, who has totalled six goals and one assist from 73 games for the club since his 2020 arrival. body check tags ::
