Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly arrived back in England to hold discussions over his Manchester United future.
The Portuguese superstar has been in his homeland in recent weeks due to family reasons, preventing him from participating in any of United's pre-season friendlies.
That situation has only heightened speculation regarding the next phase of his career with it constantly being claimed that he wants to depart Old Trafford this summer.
Head coach Erik ten Hag has stated on more than one occasion that he sees the 37-year-old remaining in his first-team plans for 2022-23.
Most recently, Ten Hag said: "It's the same as last week. Of course, concerning is maybe not the right word. I focus on the players who are there and they are doing really well.
"They are in good shape and I have further focus on that and develop that. I cannot wait for him to come in and then we will integrate him."
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Ronaldo has now travelled back to Manchester in order to try to resolve the situation.
As it stands, it is claimed that United remain unmoved on their stance that Ronaldo is not for sale and will feature in Ten Hag's squad this season.
However, discussions are expected to take place over the coming days, the intention being to stop speculation dragging on through to the end of the summer transfer window.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Ten Hag is eager to finally meet up with the forward in a bid to convince him to commit himself to United.
Super-agent Jorge Mendes is also said to be pushing to find a solution with alternative destinations for Ronaldo currently few and far between.
Atletico Madrid - neighbours and rivals of Ronaldo's former club Real Madrid - are allegedly regarded as the frontrunners for the player should a departure become more likely.
The likes of Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain all have little interest in signing the veteran this summer. body check tags ::
