A recent report has claimed that Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo could trade clubs this summer in a deal worth around £90m.
England international Rooney's future at Manchester United has been in doubt for a number of months now and incoming Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is believed to be an admirer of the frontman's talent.
However, should Los Blancos firm up their interest with a bid, the Red Devils are planning to counter that by insisting that they receive former attacker Ronaldo in return, according to the Daily Star.
It is believed that United value Rooney at £30m, while Real would demand roughly double that for a player whom they signed from Old Trafford for £80m in 2009.
Both Chelsea and Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in Rooney's services.
