Tottenham Hotspur are allegedly contemplating a bid for Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, aware that it could help them keep Harry Kane.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly toying with the idea of making an approach for Manchester United defender Harry Maguire.

On Tuesday morning, Spurs confirmed that they had appointed Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach on a long-term contract.

The 57-year-old is now tasked with trying to put together a squad capable of earning a return to European football, the likelihood being that there will be a high turnover of players over the summer.

However, also on the agenda is whether the North London outfit are able to retain the services of Harry Kane, who has just over a year left on his contract.

There have been mixed reports over the 29-year-old's future, some indicating that the forward is a target for Real Madrid but may only consider a switch to Manchester United in order to stay in the Premier League.

Chairman Daniel Levy, though, is against selling his most prized asset to the Red Devils, one of the club's fierce rivals, and it remains to be seen how United may react if they receive an offer from Spurs for one of their players.

According to The Telegraph, such a scenario may materialise with Spurs seemingly viewing Maguire as a possible addition to their backline.

Postecoglou will be under pressure to resolve the issues in a defence that conceded 63 goals in the top flight during 2022-23, and there are expected to be outgoings in that position.

From United's perspective, they are open to selling Maguire, who was restricted to just 762 minutes of league football this campaign and is only fourth in the pecking order until Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman has already acknowledged that he will not stand in the 30-year-old's way if he wishes to explore a transfer away from Old Trafford this summer.

Although Spurs have been linked with Maguire in the past, the report suggests that they may use the player's friendship with Kane as a way of convincing their all-time top goalscorer to remain in the capital.

Whether that is achievable or if United are prepared to sell to Spurs at the present time remains to be seen, while Maguire would need to move to London for the first time in his career after spending his playing days in the North or Midlands.

West Ham United have also been credited with an interest in Maguire, who still has two years left on his contract at the Theatre of Dreams. body check tags ::
