Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag is reportedly against the club selling Mason Greenwood this summer, with a loan exit emerging as the likeliest outcome.
All criminal charges against Greenwood have been dropped, meaning that the 21-year-old is free to resume his football career, but Man United are yet to make a final decision on the England international.
The Red Devils have been conducting an international investigation since the charges were dropped, and it is understood that a decision will arrive before the start of the 2023-24 campaign.
Following allegations from a woman, Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.
The forward was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, with a trial date set for later this year.
There are a number of options on the table for Man United, including releasing him, selling him or bringing him back into the fold for the 2023-24 campaign.
However, a loan exit appears to have become the most likely outcome this summer, with a number of clubs already said to have approached the Red Devils to discuss a deal.
At least one top-flight Turkish outfit are said to be interested, while Juventus, AC Milan and Roma have also been linked with the forward in recent weeks.
Greenwood is said to have placed his six-bed mansion up for let, fuelling rumours that he will be spending the 2023-24 campaign away from the club in a bid to rebuild his career.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils are currently leaning towards a loan move, with head coach Ten Hag against a sale.
Greenwood has another two years left to run on his contract in Manchester, and it now seems unlikely that he will be released from his deal despite various rumours earlier this year.
Before his arrest, the forward was regarded as one of the best young players in world football, and he has already made 129 appearances for the club, scoring 35 goals and registering 12 assists.
Greenwood's last appearance for the Red Devils was against West Ham United in the Premier League in January 2022, playing 82 minutes of a 1-0 victory over the Hammers.
The forward has also not trained with the club since the allegations were made but was recently pictured training privately, as he seemingly prepares to return to action in the coming season. body check tags ::
