Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag refused to give too much away when questioned about the club's transfer plans during his press conference ahead of Saturday's Community Shield.
The Red Devils have made two signings this summer, adding Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee to their squad, but they are expected to bring in at least two more players before the market closes.
Another centre-back could arrive, with Bayern Munich's Matthijs de Ligt seemingly the leading target, while the club are also bidding to bring in a central midfielder.
Burnley's Sander Berge and Atalanta BC's Ederson are among the midfielders being linked with the 20-time English champions, while Bayern's Noussair Mazraoui could arrive as a replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka if the right-back leaves in the coming weeks.
Ten Hag was asked for an update on the club's transfer plans during Thursday's press conference, as he previewed this weekend's Community Shield against Manchester City.
Ten Hag says Man United 'know that they are doing'
The Dutchman said that 'the timing has to be right' and insisted that the club 'know what they are doing'.
"When we have news, we will announce it. You've seen the market, it is quite quiet still. We have done business, we have done two deals, it's about timings, the market, the market options, the right moment and the right things," Ten Hag told reporters on Thursday afternoon.
"I don't go into details, where we are now in recruitment, what we are working on. We know what we are doing, we are in a good position with the squad and just wait, patience and in the right moment we will tell you."
Ten Hag was also asked about both Mason Mount and Jadon Sancho, with the former looking to kick on after a tough first campaign at Old Trafford, and the latter bidding to rebuild his Man United career after the breakdown in his relationship with Ten Hag last season.
Sancho's future remains unclear, with Paris Saint-Germain thought to be keen to sign him, but the Englishman is viewed as a possible option through the middle for Man United in the early stages of the new campaign due to Rasmus Hojlund's injury, which will keep him out for at least another month.
Ten Hag comments on Mount, Sancho
"We know he's [Mount] a high-class player and just bringing skills in. Last season, he had a very bad season, a very tough season for him because of all injuries and now we are very pleased he had a good pre-season and I'm sure from this point on he will contribute to the team if he stays fit, it counts for every player," said Ten Hag.
"Jadon can play across the whole frontline, he's an option for more than one position and it depends how you set up the team, you can look at your own tactics, opponents that fit the best and Jadon had some abilities you can use in a game, tactics and the next game."
Ten Hag also said that he will put out a team that is "very competitive" on Saturday, with the match coming six days before their Premier League opener against Fulham.
"So, we always want to win, also in all the friendlies. It's about trophy, we will put out a team that is very competitive to win this trophy. It's also pre-season, we don't go into big risks with players, the normal approach in to this game," he added.
Man United could be missing six defenders for the Community Shield, though, with late checks needing to be made on Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw and Wan-Bissaka. body check tags ::
