Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala will be at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war between Manchester City and Manchester United, according to a report.
The Daily Star claims that, although City were looking to sign the French defender along with midfielder Fernando before the end of the January transfer window, United are now keen to steal a march on their local rivals by luring the player to Old Trafford as a possible replacement for Rio Ferdinand.
Red Devils manager David Moyes is still looking to overhaul his squad with what is thought to be a sizeable transfer kitty at his disposal, and it is believed that both the Manchester clubs will battle it out for the 22-year-old's signature this summer, possibly after the World Cup.
Moyes saw his current United team lose 2-1 at Stoke City on Saturday.
