Southampton reportedly want Manchester United to complete the signing of midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin this week, so they can sign their preferred replacement.
The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, and recent reports suggest that United have stepped up their interest.
However, The Telegraph claims that United are yet to make a formal offer for the player, as they continue to monitor the potential availability of Bayern Munich's Bastian Schweinsteiger.
The paper reports that United boss Louis van Gaal is keen to sign a new right-footed player who can control the midfield, with Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin his preferred targets.
However, Southampton have already prepared for life without their £25m-rated midfielder, and are worried that they could miss out on Feyenoord's Jordy Clasie, who they want to sign to take his place.
Clasie worked with Saints manager Ronald Koeman at the Eredivise club.
