Manchester United have reportedly had a last-ditch offer for Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira swiftly turned down by the Spanish club earlier today.
United have been frustrated all summer in their search for a new creative spark in midfield, with offers for Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara both failing to see David Moyes land his first major signing at Old Trafford.
With offers for Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera both stalling, United offered £33m for the German international this afternoon, according to Spanish radio station Cadena Cope.
Madrid are thought to have quickly rejected the approach, insisting that Khedria remains a firm part of Carlo Ancelotti's plans moving forward at the Bernabeu.
Herrera remains a target for United in the final few hours before the transfer window slams shut, but the Spanish youth international's club Athletic Bilbao are holding out for a fee of around £30m.
