Manchester United will reportedly consider terminating Anderson's contract if they are unable to find a buyer for the Brazilian midfielder in January.
The 26-year-old, who has played just twice for the Red Devils this term, is on a £60,000-per-week deal at Old Trafford which expires at the end of the season.
Louis van Gaal made him available for transfer in the summer after being unimpressed with him during pre-season, but United did not receive a single offer, even from Fiorentina, where Anderson spent time on loan last campaign.
Should the 19-time English champions fail to offload him, either permanently or on loan, in the winter window, they may be prepared to pay £1.4m to cancel the remaining six months of his contract, The Telegraph claims.
Anderson has made 179 appearances for United since joining for £26m from Porto in 2007.
