Manchester United are reportedly expected to pay the £52.6m release clause in Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam's contract in order to secure the player's signature.
According to Rai Sport, United boss Jose Mourinho is keen on the left-back and is willing to spend big to bring the 26-year-old to Manchester.
Ghoulam, who has also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain, scored two goals and assisted two others before injuring his knee against Manchester City in the Champions League group stages.
The defender will be sidelined until next month with the issue, but the lack of game time will not affect Mourinho's stance on the player's services.
United strolled into the fourth round of the FA Cup on Friday after debutant Alexis Sanchez laid on two assists in a 4-0 win.
