Manchester United are reportedly lining up a deal to bring Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to Old Trafford, should David de Gea leave for Real Madrid.
Spanish international De Gea has been a long-term target for Madrid, who could move for the 27-year-old once more in the summer transfer window.
The Sun reports that, if De Gea does make the switch, United will target Toffees stopper Pickford as a replacement - but Jose Mourinho could be forced to spend up to £50m to secure the Englishman's signature.
The newspaper adds that Everton, who signed Pickford for £30m from Sunderland last summer, want to make a profit on their goalkeeper and will have to be convinced to let him leave.
Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo, who is allegedly unsettled at the Bernabeu, could be used as a makeweight in any potential transfer between United and Los Blancos.
