West Bromwich Albion are reportedly plotting a surprise double swoop for Manchester United defenders Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.
Both players have uncertain futures at Old Trafford following the arrival of Victor Lindelof from Benfica, with United manager Jose Mourinho expected to play the Sweden international alongside Eric Bailly as his first-choice centre-defence partnership this season.
Smalling, 27, and Jones, 25, have two years remaining on their current contracts and came in for public criticism from Mourinho last season as they struggled to come back from respective injuries.
According to The Mirror, Baggies boss Tony Pulis is a huge admirer of the players' partnership in the backline and also likes Jones's versatility as a defensive midfielder.
Central defence is a key priority for Pulis this summer as he looks to make up for the departure of Jonas Olsson earlier this year and the impending retirement of Gareth McAuley.
Jones is thought to currently earn £50,000 a week, while Smalling is on £80,000.
